Light a candle in memory of your baby or infant at 7pm
October 15th each year is “International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day”. International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is observed in Australia and around the world, each year on October 15. This a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death which includes, miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or the death of a newborn. Parents, partners and their families can light a candle at 7pm to represent their baby, to create a wave of light around the world.
Each year this day is observed with remembrance ceremonies and candle-lighting vigils.

The first Sunday in May annually is “National Miscarriage Awareness Day”.
In 2025, an event will be held on Sunday 4th May at 11am at Bunurong Memorial Park.

Supported by Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, Miscarriage Information Support Services are proud to welcome families to an event on National Miscarriage Awareness Day at Bunurong Memorial Park. This special gathering is open to anyone who would like to support our community members affected by miscarriage and early pregnancy loss.
The free event offers a meaningful space for bereaved parents and families to honour their babies. Afternoon tea will be provided after the event.

National Miscarriage Awareness Day is held one week prior to Mother’s Day, each year, as the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day can be emotional for anyone who has experienced the loss of a baby.
MISS creating awareness and encouraging the community to speak about the impacts that miscarriage/early pregnancy loss can have on people’s lives. There are so many emotions to manage including the grief that often accompanies this experience, and the loss of hopes and dreams for their future.
MISS encourages those still grieving to seek support, whether this be through counselling, joining a miscarriage support group, peer support program or wellbeing support program to help work through grief, and connect with others in the community.
You can also light a candle at 7pm on National Miscarriage Awareness Day, in remembrance of any baby that has been lost to miscarriage.
You can also wear yellow, or wear a MISS yellow ribbon pin on National Miscarriage Awareness Day (first Sunday in May annually) to help promote discussions around miscarriage.

National Miscarriage Awareness Day is held annually on the first Sunday in May.
The messages are:
- National Miscarriage Awareness Day is a remembrance day for anyone who has been impacted by miscarriage or early pregnancy loss, to remember their baby/babies.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day Service
Saturday 15th October 2022 – Sofitel Melbourne on Collins 7pm
Anyone affected by pregnancy or infant loss, is invited to join other bereaved families on International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day on Saturday 15 October 2022. This special service has been developed by bereaved parents who sadly know the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss, to help reflect, find solace, and connect with other bereaved families.
For the past two years, many bereaved parents have been isolated in their grief. Despite this, bereaved parents have continued ‘Keeping the light on’ in memory of their babies and supported other families to do the same.
